Running 2013 - A wind up

I started this  year 2013 with so much planning in terms of running. All went well as plan, till the Mid January before i twisted my left leg by landing in a small pit.It pushed all my plans for 6 months. I missed almost all my booked events starting from the Auroville marathon, cool runners marathon, and few other runs. I consulted 5 different ortho and got cured from the final one.
I took part in the TCS10K in end may. felt happy to complete my 10K but ran the whole course so much conscious to avoid any more injury to land on my same leg.

When i again started my running routine, i faced some other challenges as i was knocked of viral fever twice and a surgery to remove the renal stones.
This killed my schedules planned for the KTM2013 mysore, Airetl Hyderabad and few other local runs.It almost took next 3 months when i again planned to start my running on september i had only 2 runs left on the calendar CTC 2013 and the TWCM2013. I registered for both the event and especially the TWCM2013 for my FM.
I was able to complete the CTC2013 and also did my first full marathon in chennai on dec 1 2013.I enjoyed every bit of my run in this course. Post this i did my first triathlon with the chennai trekking club in the olympic category. I could not finish my swimming but did well on my cycling and the running. One another experience that i cherished with the pain.

As the year folds for 2013 i feel like my running journey is starting from tomorrow as 2014 starts with new goals and destinations.

The Man who swam the Amazon -Martin Strel

One of the nicest book i have ever read. The man who swam the Amazon.. i took this book from the Connemara library, chennai and extended twice before i started reading this book..

This book is a Journal on Day to day activity of Martin Strel about 66 day swimming on the amazon river covering 5200 + Kms.

It is very hard to imagine swimming 10 hours daily , in the midst of thick jungle , even for any emergency they dont have any access to any near by towns, hospitals.

Along this journey we will be able know abou the amazon forest, wild creatures, dangerous water creatures, Pirates, Natural disasters.

This 52 year old man did this for the cause of clean water.

His determination in completing in midst of so many constraints and challenges is well described..and the author literally takes you along the time line.

Nice one to read !!

Pachaiappas Harrington Football Academy - Summer Camp 2013

As i completed my jog in the Pachiappas ground i heard about the opening ceremony of the Pachaiappas Harrington Football Academy - Summer Camp 2013.

Actor Arya Distributing the Kit

It was very interesting to know that this is the 11th year that this camp is being organized. some of the points that i heard and noted are below.

Most of the coaches have played for different leading clubs and it is their own intrest and passion for the game ,is driving them towards this coaching sessions.

It was a great news that the 5 players from this college/club are playing the universities. I have many times witnessed the tremendous workouts that they do during their practice sessions.

They charge around 400Rs/Person for this camp, which is almost covered for all the basic expenses that is required for one full set.

It was nice to see Arya (Actor) who is regular visitor to this ground for football, was also present in the small function to encourage the sports and the kids.

One common thing most of them insisted was about the discipline towards the sports and the passion that they still hold after so much years.

I have seen the kids/ youngsters in the camp with the full gear. as everyone has a Kit bag,Stockings,Jersey and Ball.( Photo to be published next)

The used balls are being given as a free of cost for other suburban clubs , in the interest to promote the sports.

Felt , when such dedicated, passionate people are around this game will be flourishing.

Till may 15 if you want to witness this you can drop in at the Pachiappas ground,Chetpet. To see the kids getting ready on their sports journey!!!!

Simplyfly - By Capt.Gopinath

This is one book i always wanted to read. When the Deccan aviation was in the peak of the glory , i have read articles about his journey, but they were bits and pieces, after reading this book i came to know so much things about the amazing journey he has made up. The way he scaled up,  the journey everything is so beautifully illustrated.

I have never read a book in such a pace and i had this book last Sunday and i could not believe that i have completed yesterday night. The book should be in the mandate reading list if you are anytime into an entrepreneurship journey. The risks he has taken during every course of this journey and the patience he has planted to achieve this is enormous.

I read this book like a thriller novel and it has a sad ending with the mergers, selling etc. But across his  journey he really puts many things that  you can dot it down and can be helpful somewhere in your life.

When every one buys a rolex watch to showoff, he has been awarded a rolex watch as contribution to the organic farming, it surely displays the amount of enthusiasm , dedication, determination that he has invested even in such simple things.
He looks like is a man of innovation and many evidence are apparent and detailed out.

This books goes into my Read it , Read it again , Again , Again list.

Born To Run - Bible for Runners

I have never read any book related to running till now. I am novice to running and will have my running anniversary only in the month of May 2013 in terms of participating in an event. But After my first event i was recommended to read the book BORN TO RUN. After i completing it now , i realize that even before i bought the running shoes i should have bought this book or picked from the local library ( accidentally i got it in a English literature section).

Such an amazing book, i don't remember so much things from the book but one bottom line i realize from this book is that running is not to be made complicated like it is discussed across in many forums. It is a natural capability that we always had from the birth. We didn't utilize them or we forgot that we had such an amazing capability.

I never knew that running is the biggest sport participated in this world. I can imagine that in each marathon there are thousands of runners participate. And every year one million people register for marathon.

This book also grazes across the sports injuries and on statistics every runner at least get injured at least once in a year(I am victim of it now). And another amazing fact is , even the advanced running shoes doesn't guarantee you on any injury free running and covers a beautiful subject about the Barefoot running.

It also covers some of the ultra marathons that you will dare to dream.

It covers so many thing and in my view this book is a guide to understand our ability to run, a medical guide to understand the anatomy of our feet, collection of inspiring stories, get to know the running legends,Great races.

I Planned to Read it again, again and again.

What is happening with running?

It is almost 30 days before i have put my shoes to run. I had so many target for this year with atleast one HM every month.Everything started well in the begining days of year..then happened my first miss of muthu marathon on a personal reason. Then the target was for the Jan27 HM of Cool runners in midway of preparation met with an ankle injury and now with a big Plaster of Paris on my left leg. so which will take my next 2 weeks to remove this and 2 more weeks on the Ankle Binder. Which will cost my Dream Run on the Auroville also to be missed. So straight 3 events missed.

With all said above i am now putting up a still heavy target of an ENTICER TRIATHLON on march 24. Will i  and I WILL is the Q& A running up at different instances on my mind.

But for sure i will complete my reading run on the Book BORN TO RUN which i have taken from the Biggest library of chennai.

Reading this book and plan to Re Read, Re Read, Re Read so such amazing things in it..

Muthu Marathon - Jan 13th Near salem.

I ended my 2012 with 3 continuous days of running for 10 KM , but could not do a start for the 2013. In spite of it  i have my first event HM for the event @ Muthu marathon on January 13th in Salem.

I wanted to write about this as i have run in the Hitech cities like Blr,Hyd,chennai, mysore and first time i will be doing a run in rural india. ( where i originally belong to). I decided to run this event after seeing the history that they are organizing this for the 16th year ( If i am correct). Just to support this intiative i will be participating and planned to enjoy the run and revisit those rural country side.

This event does not have any big advertisements, Sponsosrs, Preparations, set up. But still many runners are having them in their schedule. Even the registration fees is around 150 Inr and can be made a day before.

This is the first event that is asking for a fitness certificate for your BP and few other tests. I have seen this only in overseas where this is mandatory.

Read from some of the old blogs about this event  that it does not have any hi-fi fun , still i want to be part of to support the initiatives that has been started and one day in future i like to have such rural events to be a famous one.

In case if you are interested kindly write to mutthumarathon@gmail.com. I could not find the website once i find it i will update you .

happy running ...
